Guillaume Abel Luís Leroux


Date of Birth: 12/05/1965
French father and Algarvian mother, 2 children.

His father first introduced him to the magic of wine, showing how to carefully serve wine and the differences in wine style. Later Guillaume realised the great potential of Portuguese wines and soon became passionate when he began to discover the richness and complexity of the world of wine during his travels and studies.

 

Educational Qualifications


  • Bachelor Degree in Viticulture – Oenology 1990 – Montpellier – France.
  • Postgraduate in Viticulture – Oenology 1995 – Escola Superior de Biotécnologia do Porto in collaboration with the University Charles Sturt-(Wagga Wagga)- Australia.

 

Professional Career


TAYLOR FLADGATE & YEATMAN: May 1991 – June 1992

  • Responsible for the organisation and work of the technical team of the Douro, Porto SA Wines

 

MONTEZ CHAMPALLIMAUD LDA: June 1992 – June 1996

  • Deputy Director
  • Responsible for all farms from this company, including:
    • Quinta do Côtto – Vintages, V.Q.P.R.D. Whites and Reds, Reserve : “Grande Escolha”.
    • Quinta do Paço de Teixeiró  Green White Wine

 

QUINTA  DO  TEDO: December 1994 – July 1996

  • Technical Consultant
  • Responsible for restructuring plan of the the vineyard and cellar, in order to produce high quality wines classified as “Vintage”.

 

MONTE DA CASTELEJA: 2000 – Present

  • Winegrower and bottler
  • Responsible for the project of planting 3 hectars of vineyards on their property for the production of top quality wines, with style and personality.
  • Aims to recreate the Single Estate Vineyards, combining technology with ancient techniques of making wine (tread on press, maceration with stems, aging in barrels).
